Hello! My name is Mai Ly Degnan and I am an illustrator who is obsessed with ink, patterns, and collage. From comic books to movies, I've always had a love for the kitschy and the strange. When illustrating, much of my subject matter focuses on awkward and eccentric characters. My intentions are always to portray them as charming rather than odd. I want the viewer to empathize with the character rather than judge. From social to cultural issues, I like to deconstruct serious subject matter and reassemble it with my own visual sarcasm. I enjoy juxtaposing serious topics with playful children's-book-like illustrations. This pairing of opposites often comes across as strange and offbeat, which is exactly my aesthetic.
